GST record-keeping: a monthly routine

05 Oct 2026

GST problems are usually record problems found late. A short monthly routine prevents most of them.

By the 5th: all sales invoices, credit notes and debit notes for the previous month are entered.

By the 9th: purchase bills are entered and GSTR-2B is downloaded; mismatches are listed against suppliers.

By the 11th: GSTR-1 is reconciled to the sales register and filed (monthly filers).

By the 20th: GSTR-3B is prepared, tax paid and filed. Keep the challan and the working together.

Due dates change from time to time; always confirm the current date on the GST portal.
